The latest rankings for the Welsh Youth League are attached below.

Apologies for the delay with getting out the updated rankings. If you see any results missing please drop me an email.

As we get closer to the selection date for Challenge Wratislavia I just want to ask everyone who is looking for selection to make sure they have read and understood the criteria, and have made sure their results are correct on the ranking table.

Selection will be at the end of November 2019.

The upcoming 2020 trip will be run as a squad trip with no option to travel independently. The squad will travel with the team manager, stay in the team hotel, and come home with the team. Entry and exit points will be at the UK airports. This is non negotiable and a condition of your selection for Wales. Parents are welcome to make arrangements to come out and spectate, but your fencers will not be released to you at any point, including during the evening for meals. This is to ensure the TM is able to fully protect the safeguarding interests of the whole team, and build a strong squad bond that Wales is known for.

Welsh Fencing are pleased to announce that we will be including the new Youth Series in our own Welsh Youth League rankings. The series has been set up by North West to give fencers more fencing opportunities in parts of the country that don’t often hold events. The first competition will be in Liverpool on the 24th February and will be open to all weapons.

In order to make the Welsh Youth League easier to understand, Welsh Fencing are updating the points system for the ranking scheme, to begin in January 2019. This simpler system will enable parents and fencers to get used to the ranking process, and will be used as a tool for selection boards when selecting relevant teams such as Challenge Wratislavia.

In line with British Fencing changing their point allocation system, Welsh Fencing will be applying a multiplier of 100 for points achieved at BRC U17 events for our U15 rankings.

This means that whatever BF award, you will be x100 for the Youth League.

We want to encourage attendance to these events and feel that an U15 gaining points at a cadet competition is worth recognising - so points will appear on the U15 rankings if you place in the top 80% in line with the BF system.

1. What changes have been made so far?

This year we have introduced the different age categories into the rankings so that fencers can see their position within their own age group, as well as their rank in Wales covering all U15 fencers. Prizes for the top rank will still only be given with the overall ranking in mind, but this way younger fencers can still feel a sense of achievement within their age group. With this in mind, we have added the U11 categories of competitions to the results. Elite Epee series has also been added to the list of events.
