Insport NGB Ribbon Award

We are pleased to announce that Welsh Fencing have been awarded the insport NGB Ribbon award.  This has been a fairly lengthy journey, originally initiated by Matt Russell and the Board, some years ago.

It builds on a number of activites, including:

  • the purchase of Wheelchair frames for clubs in Wales;
  • the continued integration of Wheelchair fencing in the Welsh Open, going back many years;
  • the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup, held in Cardiff in 2024;
  • the allocation of BF wheelchair frames to Welsh clubs following the Wheelchair World Cup;
  • the British Para Fencing National Championships will be held in Swansea in 2023

"We are delighted to confirm that Fencing Wales has successfully achieved the insport NGB Ribbon standard. Congratulations on reaching this important milestone in your journey towards creating inclusive provision and development.

As a key partner in the planning, provision and delivery of inclusive sport, the role you play is vital to achieving the shared vision of ensuring that everyone across Wales has the opportunity to participate in and enjoy sport. Achieving the insport NGB Ribbon standard recognises the positive initiatives Fencing Wales have taken to begin to embed inclusive practices and to develop and strengthen meaningful practices."

- Jo Hendy, Insport Senior Officer

The Board plan to continue on this journey, and have confirmed our commitment in the Welsh Fencing Strategy, as announced at the AGM 2025.
