Hi all youth WF fencers,
Following feedback on the name, purpose and scope of the Welsh Cadet Championships the board have decided to re-name the competition as the Welsh Youth Championships.
Clara Elicabe, 16, an Argentine international fencer in her age range, took time out from her school Hockey & Volleyball tour to York, Newcastle, Edinburgh & London - to fence at Whitchurch, whilst in Cardiff !

Hello WF community,
September has been a busy month for our Veteran fencers with 2 key events taking place:
Please find below a short summary from each event plus some pictures of the national podiums and teams from the Winton Cup
On the 12th-13th July 25 our senior regional welsh team came together in a rather warm Nottingham for the Winton cup. It was a great weekend of learning, competing and meeting lots of new people. Thank you to everyone who took part and allowed us to come together as a team, you all fenced so well and really brought the welsh team spirit with you. Special mention to Emma, Charlotte, Florence and Ayse who all are under the age of 16 and for some it was their first ever senior competition they all fenced amazingly despite everyone being much older than them.
Very well done to Whitchurch club member, Marc Walford, who took first place in Sunday’s `Clash in the Castle` open-air epee match, in Coity Castle, Bridgend, organised by Celtic Sword Fencing Club.
The Commonwealth Fencing Federation (CFF) has announced that the 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships for Seniors and Veterans will take place at Charterhouse School Campus in Lagos, Nigeria.
At the time of writing there is no further information available about any aspects of the event, including the date. A request for this information has been made to CFF.
Celtic Sword’s inaugural Clash in the Castle was held in the ruins of the beautiful Coity Castle on Sunday 22nd June 2025. Whilst the black clouds above threatened rain, they definitely added some drama to the day, and thankfully it remained dry (if very windy…) for both the improvers match in the morning and the experienced match in the afternoon.
