The Welsh Vet National Championships 2025 is scheduled to run over the weekend of 6/7 September, 2025. The venue will be the Cardiff Academy of Fencing.
The Welsh Fencing board would like to extend a heartfelt thank you on behalf of the whole fencing community to Matt Russell for his tireless work as Chair of Welsh Fencing over the last few years.
Since his appointment as Chair in 2020 Matt has worked extensively to promote and develop fencing in Wales. Throughout his tenure the position of Welsh Fencing has been strengthened through securing increased recognition on a national level, greater visibility within Wales, successful partnerships and continued success on the piste.

As another year comes to a close, Whitchurch Fencing Club decided to celebrate it with a `Club Champion` competition, for which a modern statuette trophy was awarded. Format Poule Unique, and the winner, seen here with the trophy, is club member Marc Walford, whose day job is as Vicar in the Merthyr Tydfil ministry area. Well done, Marc !

Over the weekend of 21st/22nd September the Veteran Winton Cup was held at a rather damp Billesley Indoor Tennis Center in Birmingham – we were one of 10 regional teams vying for the title from across the UK. I was proud to captain the team this year and with the usual spread of seasoned Welsh stalwarts, new caps as well as a couple of honorary Welshies (shout out to Helen and Dominique) we stepped onto the piste together - some of us with Daffodils in hand or more accurately on heads!
