Another busy evening for the club, as club members fought it out for the title of Club Champion. The format was a Poule Unique, 5 hits, 3 minutes max per bout, and competition-style scoring against 'Total Victories', tied places being decided on Hits Scored minus Hits Received indicators.
Referees : club coaches Michael Clemitson & Steve Poyser.
A high standard of fencing was evident. Welcome back to Luke Tait returning to fencing after a spell away, and apologies from Abi Brown and Dave Lewis, who had hoped to attend.
As with all Poules Unique, you don't know the winner till the end, but the "apparent lead" - as viewed by those watching ... - changed hands several times, with good fencing from newcomer Chris Stevenson, club member Nick Morgan, and old-hand Paul (Red) Redmond. Very strong performances from Andrea Bertelli, Marc Walford, Luke Tait & Rupert Nute kept everyone's attention, with only the slightest number of points separating them.
Well done to winner, Luke, with 7 victories, and the higher indicator over Marc, also with 7 victories. A very close match.
Very well done also to Adrian Clarke & Nadia Ker, two of the highest placed from the previous week's Novices & Improvers competition designed for recent beginners, in facing up to their more experienced club members in such a brisk competition !
Fencing resumes at Whitchurch on 2nd January 2024 - visitors & new members welcome.
Date for your diary – 18 February 2024 - O’Sullivan Cup – Intermediate Epee competition.
